COVID-19 Health & Safety Procedures

The Health and Safety of our Flairs Family is our top priority.

We are putting strict hygiene measures in place to reduce the risk of spreading the virus during face to face lessons.

Before RE-OPENING:

  • All gym areas and equipment including toilets will be sanitized thoroughly.
  • Markings will be placed on the floor to ensure a 3m social distancing radius between gymnasts.
  • Markings will be placed at the entrance to allow a minimum of 2m between members waiting to receive their temperature scanning and screening before given the go-ahead to enter the building and sanitize their hands.
  • Parent watching areas will also have single chairs placed in a zig-zag with a 2m social distancing radius, parents will be required to wear a mask.
  • All coaches will be screened daily and receive enough face shields and face masks to change them regularly.
  • All coaches will undergo health and safety training.
  • Hand sanitizers, liquid anti-bacterial soaps, spray bottles, paper towels and cloths (for cleaning), temperature scanners, foot-pump hand sanitizing stands, foot-pump refuse bins, pump bottles and safety posters have been purchased and will be put in place.
  • We will create Google Forms for coaches to do walk-around inspection and coaches and gymnast screening to ensure that all data is saved daily.

UPON RE-OPENING:

Arrival

  • Coaches will arrive through the back entrance 1 hour before the start of classes to sanitize all areas, check that all hand sanitizing stations are filled and all markings are clear.
  • Coaches will arrive in private transport and will be required to commute wearing casual clothes and a face mask. Our coaches do not work for any other company/organization/sports club for the forthcoming months.
  • Once coaches arrive, they will change into their uniform and store their travelling clothes in a separate bag and keep all their belongings in a demarcated area, with a 2m social distancing radius between coaches’ belongings
  • None of our members come to the class via public transport, all members will be required to wear a face mask when they travel to and from class and may only take it off and put it in their bags in their demarcated bag area once they have been screened and sanitized.
  • Those gymnasts whose family wish them to wear masks or visors may wear them in class.
  • They will sanitize their hands upon any entry and exit of the gym area, including when they go for water or toilet breaks.
  • Parents are encouraged to get their children to go to the toilet before coming to gym to reduce the use of the bathroom facilities
  • All gymnasts will be required to bring their own towel for drying their hands and their own water bottles.
  • All members will be required to complete the COVID-19 indemnity form which states that they are aware of and accept the risk of returning to the gym during this time before their children are permitted to participate, this will be sent electronically to reduce contact via paper handovers as far as possible.
  • A google form will be used to be completed electronically for each participation before every lesson with symptom checks so an electronic record is kept of symptoms and temperature and agreement to participate. Temperatures will also be checked at the door on arrival.
  • If your child has a temperature or any symptoms you are requested to please remain at home and let us know you are unable to take part. We will assist in making up any lost lessons to the very best of our ability during COVID-19 times.

Class management

  • As part of the regulations with SA Gymnastics we undergo a risk assessment for each venue. Part of this assessment will indicate to us the maximum number of gymnasts we will be allowed to have participating at one time. We will thus be adhering to this maximum number allowed in a class.
  • For preschoolers, ages 18 months-5 years, parents will accompany their kids to class to assist in safe assistance of the child in all aspects. Parent and child will count as one unit but we will not have maximum numbers in these classes as there are more people.
  • Members will be notified of this timeously and splitting of classes that are currently bigger than the maximum allowed, if needed. This will be arranged via email correspondence with the parents.
  • Parents who sit and watch will have to remain strictly in the foyer area, seated on individual chairs placed 2m apart and they will be required to wear a mask/face shield while they watch.
  • A 10-15 minute interval will take place between every class to avoid any congestion between the end of one class and the start of the next class.
  • This interval will allow the coaches to completely sanitize all the mats and any other equipment that may have been used for the lesson.
  • Toilets will also be sanitized after each use.
  • Only 1 child will be permitted to go to the bathroom at a time, parents will be informed of this and we encourage you to encourage your child to use the bathroom at home before arriving for their lesson.
  • Coaches will take turns doing duties of screening, toilet sanitation, coaching and equipment sanitation in a rotation throughout the day to ensure all aspects are looked after.

Class program

  • The program will focus on fitness and conditioning
  • Limited floor work will be introduced in later weeks, this will be skills that require little to no spotting from coaches, only verbal cues.
  • Bar work will be introduced in later weeks, and we will ensure that they can be sanitized properly after each gymnast.
  • Hand apparatus will not be shared between gymnasts, once used they will be left on the mat where the gymnast was standing and will be sanitized after the class and put away.
  • Rope skipping will be done with gymnasts being given their own rope to bring to gym each session.

Exit

  • Gymnasts will gather their belongings, put their travel masks on, sanitize their hands and wait on an exit marking, these will be placed 2m apart and lead towards the exit, once they reach the front of the queue they may leave if they see their parent outside, if not they will go to the back of the exit queue.
  • A coach will stand at the entrance and indicate who may leave one at a time.
  • Parents waiting to collect their kids must wait in their car.
  • Parents will be asked to arrive at least 10 minutes before the end of class to ensure no late pick-ups.

We look forward to embracing the new normal and helping to fight this virus together by encouraging good hygiene, regular exercise and safe social interactions with friends and family.
