The 1st Flairs Winter Display took place on 25 June at the Plumstead Methodist Church. This was a fun filled morning, where mommies, daddies, grannies, grandpa’s and friends and family came together to enjoy each Flairs gymnast’s performance and celebrate in the FUN, FRIENDSHIP AND FITNESS of Flairs Gymnastics.
Performances included all the Baby Bear and Tiny Tigers who attend the preschools of Kidz Corner, Honey Pot, ABC, Children’s Paradise and Shine The Way, as well as the Baby Bears, Tiny Tigers, Little Lions and Flairs gymnasts that attend at the gym.
The morning was hosted by Paul Delport from the Springbok Rugby 7s team and a raffle took place with the winner walking away with a signed Protea cricket jersey from Mondi Zondeki, 2nd Prize winning a Tupperware hamper and 3rd Prize winning a luxury food hamper.
Thank you to Mondi, Jackie Aproskie and Avril Cloete for donating the prizes. Many thanks also to Barbara, Moira, Hilda, Jolene, Ricardo& Warren for assistance with the gymnasts, Lorraine & Avril for help with the tuckshop, Adam & Eon for photography & videography, Rikus, Paul, Richard, Julia, Ray and Francois for moving all the apparatus and Francois for coordinating the music. I could have never done it without you all!
The morning was a wonderful celebration of gymnastics, and the funds raised from the raffle have been utilised to purchase a mini-trampoline for the gym.

HAZEL COATES VISITS FLAIRS AGAIN
Hazel Coates, Chairperson of the Technical Committee for Gymnastics and Movement for People with Disabilities (GMPD) for British Gymnastics, visited Flairs again on 24 February. Last year when Hazel visited Flairs, she sparked an interest in the attendees and our class for children with Downe Syndrome was established.
This year, all the parents of the current Flairs gymnasts spread the word and our hall was packed with parents, children, teachers and medical professionals who all work with or have children with Downe Syndrome. Hazel was an inspiration to all who attended the workshop and the children got involved in all the activities, some even learning to do a forward roll for the first time. The Flairs gymnasts also showed off some of the activities and routines they get up to in class.
We were also please to be joined by Charles, from KZN, who had travelled to Cape Town to work with Hazel on his competition routines, He was an inspiration to the parents at the course, who had read about him from the SAGF newsflashes and he stayed to train at our club, with some parents watching.
Flairs Gymnastics proudly made Hazel and honorary member of our family and we hope she will wear the Flairs Gymnastics t-shirt with pride!
We hope to see Hazel again soon and Flairs thanks the South African Gymnastics Federation for bringing Hazel out and giving us the opportunity to work with her once again, and being able to offer the course to our members and their friends for free.
FLAIRS FEATURE AT WP GYMNASTICS AWARDS EVENING
Flairs Gymnastics and two of its gymnasts featured prominently at the 2011 WP Gymnastics Awards evening.
Flairs Gymnastics walked away with the recognition of Club of the Year for Aerobic Gymnastics! Congratulations to all the Aerobic gymnasts who contributed to the club winning this award!
Rachel Wood and Ray Meas were recognised for their participation at the Summer Universiade in China, as well as Ray being recognised for his 7th place at the Suzuki World Cup.
Ray and Rachel were also recognised for their gold medal wins at the 2011 National Championships in Mixed Pairs and Ray in Individual Men.
Flairs Summer Display 2011
The 1st Flairs Summer Display took place on 12 November 2011 at the Plumstead Methodist Church. This was a fun filled morning, where friends and family came together to see the improvement in the Flairs gymnasts over the year and to celebrate the FUN, FRIENDSHIP AND FITNESS of Flairs Gymnastics.
Performances included all the Baby Bear and Tiny Tigers who attend the preschools of Kidz Corner, Honey Pot, ABC, Children’s Paradise and Shine The Way, as well as the Baby Bears, Tiny Tigers, Little Lions and Flairs gymnasts that attend at the gym.
The morning was hosted by Ray Meas, our own star of the gym and a raffle took place with the winner walking away with a signed Springbok Rugby 7s shirt from Paul Delport, 2nd Prize winning a Tupperware hamper and 3rd, 4th and 5th Prizes winning luxury food hampers. There were also 3 spot prizes. Thank you to Paul, Jackie Aproskie and all the parents for donating the prizes.
We were very lucky to witness a performance from the Jump It Crew (coach Terrence and his friends) who showed our gymnasts how Rope Skipping at the highest level is meant to look. Many thanks also to Hilda, Anne, Masi & Tozi for assistance with the gymnasts, Avril & Pequita for help with the tuckshop, Adam & Rachel for photography & videography, Francois for moving all the apparatus and coordinating the music. An especially big thanks to coach Joleane and Terrence for all their help in getting the children ready for the display. I could have never done it without you all!

SAGF National Rope Skipping Medal
Congratulations to Kian Africa (Little Lions) who won Flairs Gymnastics first National Rope Skipping medals when he walked away with the GOLD OVERALL for Level 1 , as well as the gold medal for freestyle and the silver medal for speed at the South African Gymnastics Federation’s National Gymnastics Games on 3 & 4 October 2011. Kian was an absolute hit with the crowd, and he got the velodrome all clapping for him, especially during his freestyle when he completed it with bonuses without one mistake!
Congratulations to Kian, who is our first Western Province representative in Rope Skipping at a National Competition. Thank you to coach Terrence for all his hard work in preparing Kian for the competition!
Flairs Gymnasts Wish the Bokke Good Luck

Rachel & Ray go to China
Rachel Wood and Ray Meas were part of Team South Africa who took part at Summer Universiade in Shenzen, China from 14-24 August 2011. This is the first Universiade that Aerobic Gymnastics has been included in the Games.
The Summer Universiade is a multi-games event for all Olympic Sports, yet only athletes between the ages of 17 and 28 may participate and they must be registered and studying at an accredited University.
As both Rachel and Ray are MBCHB students at Stellenbosch University they were eligible to attend the even. They were due to compete in the Mixed Pairs section, unfortunately Rachel fell ill just before going on stage, so they could not compete. They did, however, hold the South African flag high when they performed their routine in the Closing Ceremony, impressing the judges with their performance
ROPE SKIPPING REGIONALS MEDALS
Kian Africa and Matthew Cloete won the silver and bronze medals respectively for Level 1 Rope Skipping Regional Competition on Friday 19 August 2011.
Well done to both boys who competed in their first ever WP Regional Competition and Terrence for getting our boys ready and adding to our Rope Skipping medal tally!
AEROBICS REGIONAL GOLD
Rachel Kenyon won the gold medal for Level 1 Aerobic Gymnastics at her first WP Regional Competition on Friday 19 August 2011.
Rachel receives her WP ½ Colours for this and will be in action showing off her routine as a display at the Aerobic Level 3-7 Nationals in October.
Well done Rachel, this is a fantastic achievement for your first competition.
AER National Championships
Three gymnasts from Flairs Gymnastics competed at the SAGF Nationals Championships for Aerobic Gymnastics on 2 July 2011.
Aimee Cloete walked away with the silver medal in Level 8 Individual Women. This was Aimee’s first competition at the Junior International Level. This has given her a great boost towards her participation at trials for African Championships later in the year.
Rachel Wood and Ray Meas competed a clean routine for the gold medal in Level 10 Mixed Pairs. This was a great practice competition for their preparation for the Summer Universiade in Chine, where they will be competing in August.
Ray Meas performed very well to retain his title as the National Champion of the Level 10 Individual Male Section. He also walked away with the Zoutendyk Trophy for the gymnast with the highest score at the National Championships. This is the fourth time in a row Ray has won the trophy!
