Flairs Gymnastics attended the prestigious awards dinner for the Murray and Roberts Jack Cheetham and Letsema Awards. This black tie event is held annually to recognise the meaningful contribution made by sporting groups to the development of sports people in South Africa and the unifying effect that sport has in South African society. Flairs was chosen as a finalist for the Letsema Award which recognises sporting groups who work with people with disabilities. Flairs Gymnastics has classes for children with disabilities at its gymnastics club in Plumstead, and will also be rolling out a gymnastics program at Tembaletu School in Gugulethu from 2015.
Flairs was up against strong competition and owners Anne Vermaak & Sadicka Isaacs were over the moon to win the 1st runner up position and funding from Murray and Roberts for three years towards their program at Tembaletu School. This will assist to not only carry out the program at the school, but to better equip the school as well as train the teachers to become coaches so they can roll out the program, not only within the school, but to the larger community of Gugulethu. Coach Terrence will head up the program at Tembaletu school having gained experience from his years of working with children with downs syndrome and autism at the gym, as well as completing an International Gymnastics Federation foundation course this year.
This is a fantastic achievement for Flairs Gymnastics and we are so proud of not just the recognition of all our hard work, but also for the assistance the funding brings to change the lives of children with disabilities in Gugulethu, as well as the broader community itself
BLOMVLEI SUMMER DISPLAY 2014
Thursday 20 November saw the Blomvlei Summer Display taking place with sponsors Flexitrade once again in attendance to see the progress of their 15 sponsored children at the school. This display saw the skippers completing their Flairs Gold Rope Skipping Testing routine. The children also showed off their gymnastics skills, as well as the fun that they have in class with Coach Sadicka. Thank you to Flexitrade and their team who really got behind the children in the class, supporting them. Thank you also to Mrs Petersen for her continued support of the program and being a part of the Summer Display. Next year the children look forward to taking part in the Flairs Speed Challenge.

KIAN & MATTHEW TOPS AT NATIONALS
Kian Africa and Matthew Cloete showed their dominance at the SA Gymnastics Games at the Belville Velodrome on 7 October 2014. They both represented Western Cape in Level 3 14&u male section.
Kian won a bronze medal for freestyle, silver for speed and silver overall with Matthew walking away with the gold medal and title of freestyle champion.
Well done to both gymnasts and coaches Sadicka and Terrence, Level 3 is such a tough level. We are very proud of you!
BEN & LISA TRIUMPHANT IN LEVEL 2 NATIONALS
Benjamin Gubb and Lisa van Staden both represented Cape Town Gymnastics at the SA Gymnastics Games at the Belville Velodrome on 6 October 2014. They both competed in Level 2, Ben in the 11&u male section and Lisa in the 14&u female section.
Both gymnasts faced tough competition, but walked away triumphant. Lisa won the bronze medal for freestyle and Ben won a gold medal for freestyle, silver for speed and silver overall.
Well done to both gymnasts and coaches Sadicka and Terrence, it is fantastic to do so well on you home turf! We are very proud of you!
REECE, LISA & BEN QUALFIY FOR SCHOOL SPORT NATIONAL GAMES
Reece Lewis, Benjamin Gubb (St Anne’s Primary School) and Lisa van Staden (Southfield Primary School) took part in the Western Cape Gymnastics Provincial School Sport Rope Skipping Competition at the Belville Velodrome on Friday 12 September. Lisa came first and Reece fourth in the Skip Star 2 under 14 section female section, with Ben placing first in the male section. The top four athletes in each section qualify to represent Team Western Cape at the National School Sport Games to be held in Pretoria from 10-16 December. Sadicka will also be representing the Team as the official coach
NUCLEAR PACKAGING PARTNER WITH FLAIRS @ TEMBALETU
Nuclear Packaging have partnered with Flairs to roll out their Schools Gymnastics Program at Tembaletu School in Gugulethu. This is a very exciting project for Flairs as it will be their first school for children with disabilities. Principle Pather from the school has a long history with Gymnastics and it is a wonderful opportunity for the school to have a Gymnastics program. The school has just been blessed with the construction of a new hall, which will be completed at the end of 2014. Thus the Flairs program will commence in January 2015.

FLAIRS SKIPPERS SHINE AT ROPE SKIPPING TRIALS
The Flairs skippers were in action at the Rope Skipping Provincial Trials in Philippi on Saturday 15 August 2014. Jamie Dennis competed well in her first Provincial trials in the toughest section in the competition of Level 1 12&under section. Lisa van Staden worked hard to win the gold medal in the Level 2 14 & under section and Ben Gubb recorded the highest mark for his freestyle routine in the Level 2 14 & under section. Kian Africa and Matthew Cloete brought their experience in the sport to the forefront and walked away with the gold and silver medal respectively for the Level 3 14 & under section.
Congratulations to all our superstars who represented us with pride at the competition.
FLAIRS GYMNASTS TOP AT SCHOOL SPORT TRIALS
Four Flairs gymnasts represented their schools at the District School Sports Trials on Friday 15 August 2014. Lisa van Staden (Southfield Primary School) together with Ben Gubb, Reece Lewis and Jamie Dennis (St Anne’s Primary School) competed in the Skip Star and Aero Star Gymnastics Schools Program.
This was the first time that Flairs has been involved in the Schools Program and the gymnasts had a great time. Lisa came first and Reece third in the Skip Star 2 female section with Ben coming first in the male section. Jamie won the silver medal for the Skip Star 1 female section.
Well done to these four gymnasts!
GOLD FOR AIMEE & ROBIN AT NATIONALS
Aimee Cloete and Robin Klaasen represented Western Cape Gymnastics at the SAGF National Championships in the Age Group II (15-17 year) section. Aimee won gold for her Individual Women routine and Robin the gold in Individual Men. Aimee & Robin then teamed up to win gold in the Mixed Pairs section. Both gymnasts were happy to be back competing at the National Championships after a bit of a break last year.
TERRENCE ATTENDS AN INTERNATIONAL COACHES COURSE
Terrence was very privileged to be chosen as one of three coaches from the Western Cape to attend the FIG Foundation Course in Durban from 1-5 July 2014. This is a course delivered by experts from the International Gymnastics Federation and is one of the best coaching courses in the world. The week long course is intensive in practically delivering many aspects of Gymnastics coaching to the participants. Terrence had a great deal of fun and leant so much. Flairs thanks the South African Gymnastics Federation for the opportunity for Terrence to attend, as well as for providing all the funding for it. This will be a great asset to Terrence and Flairs, with both Sadicka and Terrence now holding this qualification.
